Board of Directors

Melissa Fletcher

President

Term: 12/2023 to 12/2025

I have lived in the area since 2008, when my husband and I purchased our first home in Fern Forest. Years before that I graduated from UH with my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, minor in Art after serving many years in the medical field as a Emergency Tech and Medical Assistant. I’ve lived in various places in the US, my husband and daughter are born and raised here on Hawaii Island, 4th and 5th generations.

I started a thriving construction company nearly 2 decades ago that I am still the sole owner/operator of. I am experienced in proper technique for installing and maintaining local, gravel drives and roads, local building codes and methods. I have extensive knowledge of what various construction work and materials should average, as well as a well-rounded education in various other construction related topics.

I have served on one of our local school boards for over 4 years and that experience has been very helpful in serving the community on this board. Thank you for your involvement and trust.

My approach to FFCA will focus on transparency, proactive management and effective communication, with a goal to ensure that the roads projects address community needs while improving safety and functionality. My experience as a certified project management professional with a previous career in business accounting will be valuable skills in this endeavor. I love our jungle home and hope to help in making it better. Imua!

My brother and I have bought, built and recently moved onto our new place here in Fern Forest. I have been on the Big Island from 1982. In 1984 I started a glass tinting business which turned into 5 companies. I’ve built 13 homes between ’88 and ’96. Moved to Oahu to become superintendent for American Fence (56 employees, $750,000 Installations), General Labor Foreman for the Beachwalk Project (120 million dollars), Head of Safety for Alure, Waikiki Project. Retired 2017 to return home. I will bring my expertise to better our community, infuse new ideas and make a positive change.

Leslie Leber

Board Member At-Large

Term: 12/2024 to 12/2026

I am a U.S. Navy Veteran. Through my military service and other employment I have gained skills in preventative maintenance, repair, computers, etc. I also learned to treat people with respect, regardless of a difference in point of view, to better enable both sided empathies and come to a common understanding. I grew up in the country and understand rural concerns. I purchased my property 5 years ago and have continued to improve that, my neighbor relations, and roadside management along Makoa when able. I want to live in a community that fosters a healthy environment for my family to grow and feel proud of. I believe that is what most people want. I am offering my services to help achieve that goal.
